“Time to suit up.”
We’re once again this week given mini stories featuring a few of the characters throughout this series; Deathstroke, Big Barda, and Powergirl to name a few that spellcheck doesn’t recognize as being real names.
Brian Azzarello along with his fellow writers bring us from one island to the next this week and use this issue to present something BIG! (It’s also the best colored page by Hi-Fi, but explaining it would be too big a spoiler, get this issue now!). Azzarello uses this week to bring to light some of the hardships the world is facing without a “Superman” – though someone seems perfectly content with the way things are. We’re also driven back to the McGinnis storyline, which is a rather important one, but we’re shown more planning stages, hopefully leading to something awesome in the near future.
On art this week is Georges Jeanty on pencils, Dexter Vines and Karl Story both on inks, and colors again done by Hi-Fi. Together they craft a really cool Powergirl scene. Though brief, it shows off contrasts and detail really well. Jeanty creates a menacing hero in the sky as the orange sky is filled with clouds behind her. Above her, two panels in blue shows us what she’s looking at, or searching for, as a letterbox in the corner of the page reads “Come out, come out, wherever you are.”
This week we once again leap from story to story, leaving out a few to look at a few more. The inclusion of McGinnis/Batman again was a welcome one, though brief, but shows us he’s still pushing along on his mission.
