“Who are these people?”

“Them? Passionate food inspectors.”

Really?

“No. Not really.”

Bruce Wayne sure is clueless these days. Good thing he’s got a whole bunch of past sidekicks watching his back…along with a bunch of kids wishing they were his sidekicks. That’s right, the characters from We Are Robin join in on the action in issue #4 of Batman and Robin Eternal. Seems like a review for the newest We Are Robin was just done today as well…coincidence?

Scripting this week from the story by James Tynion IV and Scott Snyder is Steve Orlando. Orlando keeps the stride of previous issues with a great flow of humor (the line shown above between Wayne and Grayson) as we get more insight into the insidious nature behind Mother. A strong point this issue is how Orlando handles the constant banter between the Robins, along with Bluebird and Spoiler on the intercoms as well. A great scene featuring Spoiler, Red Robin, and Red Hood comes when Red Robin suggests Spoiler take a break from the action for lacking the necessary fighting skills.

Dial back?! Punching is not the only way someone can be useful here!”

“That how you sign your yearbook?

“Fair point. Punching you both does feel useful right now.”

Will someone tell her you have to behave yourself while in the Batcave?

On the artwork side of this week’s issue there’s Scot Eaton on pencils, Wayne Faucher on inks, and Gabe Eltaeb on colors. This issue offers a great fight scene right from the start (following the Wayne/Grayson conversation) as the Robins join Grayson to take on the party-goers being controlled by Mother. Turns out Grayson wasn’t aware Gotham had a new set of Robins as he warily fights alongside them. Eaton delivers the action taking place in the back kitchen as Wayne watches (seemingly scared) from inside a closet. Faucher uses the inks to show how Wayne is watching through a small crack in the door only moments before Grayson bursts through it while being attacked by two assailants.

Another great week of Batman and Robin Eternal as Orlando gives us more humor alongside another twist in the Mother story. The artwork is consistent with what we’ve been seeing from the issues so far as Eaton delivers his take on the Robins as well as an appearance from Batgirl. The teamwork from all the “Real” Robins has been great to see so far…any chance the new Robins will be sticking around?
