The 2015 Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) was held April 24-26th. Valiant Entertainment had a large display space and hosted two well-received panels. There was a lot of buzz around their booth, and from what I could tell, more people visited them this year than what I experienced at their booth the previous two years.  Word is getting out!

While there were many noteworthy Valiant moments, here are my top three related to the Femmes universe:

  1. Amy Chu joins the ranks of VEI.
Writer Amy Chu was on hand at the VEI 25th anniversary panel. Chu will be contributing to the wedding issue of X-O Manowar, collaborating with artist Clayton Henry to tell a story about Valiant Femme Saana. Not much is known about Saana on a personal level, and Chu aims to showcase her as more than just Aric’s love interest. I chatted with Amy about her project.
She spoke about the challenges of creating in so few pages (Chu’s short story will be 4 pages) and said she felt Saana needed a bigger role. Rather than making a traditional wedding story about a bride-to-be, Saana’s story will reveal her bad-ass side. She is a Visigoth afterall, and she survived on a slave world without Aric’s help. I’m looking forward to Amy’s take.
  2. Jay Fabares’ Bloodsquirt voice variant.
One of the surprises at the 25th anniversary celebration panel was the debut of several Bloodshot Reborn #5 covers, including the Bloodsquirt animated voice variant created by Jay Fabares. Several news outlets later ran coverage on the new “squirtverse” and Jay’s creation, but it was big news at the panel. It was a pleasant surprise to see Jay’s handiwork up on the screen, and the crowd definitely approved of the cover which will feature 10 alternating dialogues. Way to go, Jay! 3. mirageSoldDeath Defying Doctor Mirage trade sells out at the con!
The Valiant booth had a large library of trades to choose from, and I’m happy to report that Doctor Mirage sold so well that they ran out of copies. Looks like I’m not the only fan looking forward to Jen Van Meter’s “The Second Life of Doctor Mirage”.

  • Amazing recap Amy! Such great news about Doctor Mirage selling out. There were SO MANY Mirage trades on Friday. Love hearing that.
This was my first convention with a Valiant presence. Everyone at the booth was uber helpful and friendly. Valiant was offering some GREAT intro deals (which let me fill some gaps). One thing I was shocked at was the new Divinity shirts weren’t really being displayed.
