‘Calla Cthulhu’ Combines the Best of Lovecraft and Buffy
Evan Dorkin, Sarah Dyer, and Erin Humiston’s ‘Calla Cthulhu’ is now available on Stela: Comics For Your Phone
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—Dublin, CA: After months of anticipation, Stela: Comics For Your Phone is pleased to announce that Calla Cthulhu—the Lovecraftian-inspired adventure by Evan Dorkin, Sarah Dyer, and Erin Humiston—is now available on the Stela app.
Being a teenager isn’t easy. Even more so when you’re Calla, a girl who carries the bloodline of the Great Old Ones in her veins. Instead of normal teen activities, Calla spends her time battling supernatural threats like her Uncle, the King in Yellow. She must resist his call to embrace her own chaotic heritage as well as prevent him from awakening the terrible deity asleep and dreaming in the corpse city of R’lyeh—the Dread Dead One!
“Calla Cthulu is a comic with a true dream team at the center of its creation. Evan Dorkin and Sarah Dyer are crafting some truly compelling and action-packed scripts full of comedy and imagination,” said Stela senior editor Jim Gibbons. “Along with Erin Humiston’s energetic and eye-popping art, they’ve created an amazing new character with Calla—a heroine with heart and some serious family issues to deal with. With Mario A. Gonzalez on inks, Bill Mudron on colors, and Nate Piekos of Blambot® on lettering, it’s a one of the most incredibly talented and well rounded creative teams in comics. You don’t want to miss this one!”
“Learning to work for the vertical scroll was a challenge, but it’s offered a lot of benefits to us as storytellers—you can control the pacing more, prevent accidental peeks ahead and most importantly, really refine how you reveal things through the movement of the panels across a device,” said series co-creator Sarah Dyer. “We think it’s really made the stories on Stela something special and different.”
Perfect for fans of H.P. Lovecraft lore, and the action and adventure of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Calla Cthulhu presents an incredible feat of storytelling from Dorkin, Dyer, and Humiston, presented in Stela’s distinctive vertical scrolling format.
A six chapter series, Stela will release a new Calla Cthulhu installment every Thursday until the end of June. Download the app today!
