That long promised apocalypse is a hell of a lot closer than the characters of its world would like. After years of being told the end times are coming all across these books, and readers feeling like the child in the back of the car constantly asking “are we there yet?”; the answer from Mignola is finally: “Nearly.”
Hellboy in Hell will be missed. Mignola and Stewart have been at the height of their game and giving us a healthy dose of the good old days mixed with a masterful evolution of their collective style.
[HELLBOY AND THE BPRD is] a book that should be on all the “Best of” lists, and certainly a book that should be read first off the pile every week it’s out.
If one has never read The Massive, this issue is highly recommended…but for fans of The Massive, one would be forgiven for coming away from reading Ninth Wave #1 asking, “why?”
