“You know… for a guy who knows how the future is gonna turn out… you should know that all that posturing and preaching is gonna get you into trouble.”
Deadpool gets a little one on one fight action in his take on Marvel’s Secret Wars. The writer of this grand adventure is Cullen Bunn, someone responsible for taking the Merc with a Mouth on some of his craziest adventures (Deadpool Killustrated, Deadpool Kills Deadpool). This time around Deadpool wants you to know just how helpful he was in the Secret Wars, even if the other heroes won’t admit it… but he was totally there!
Bunn does a great job of bringing out Wilson’s trademark wit and ridiculous comments. A great line that follows the one above comes after he kicks a certain conqueror in his… well… here’s the quote, “And you’d think you’d wear a cup for something. I’m just postulating here… but I’d bet your future holds a lot of kicks to the time-junk.”
Artist Matteo Lolli is accompanied by colorist Ruth Redmond on this issue and together they create some classic looking scenes. A great scene shows off the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four all wearing their classic outfits as they try to figure out what’s going on as well as do a quick role call. Interrupting them all of course is Deadpool, who no one seems to remember. Following shortly after this scene we’re shown everyone on Batteworld. In a huge spread everyone takes on a foe, and yes, even Deadpool finds some people to fight, although his usual fighting tactics aren’t really “hero-friendly” he finds other means to take out some of the baddies. The amount of detail Lolli piles into the scene is impressive, and along with the colors by Redmond this scene serves as a standout in the issue.
Deadpool swears he was a part of the Secret Wars too, and so far it seems he had a pretty important role… and a glorious mustache?
