Synopsis:
A portion of this comic is story overlap within the event, but with a focus on Rai. Aside from that, we see Albert pay a secret visit to the woman he beat to release his rage towards Erica. She is in serious condition in a hidden medical facility. Albert tells her all about his hate for Mothergod and what she’s done to him, which results in Albert killing the woman because she now knows too much.
On the Rai side of the story, he reigns in his hate for Pierce enough to begin working with Magnus and the Gilads towards stopping Mothergod. They discover that Solar is not actually dead, but merely contained, so they make a plan to free him. Setting out on that plan, they are getting overwhelmed while breaking into Mothergod’s fortress. Rai stays back and defends their entry point, successfully until Mothergod shows up. Although she still fears Rai’s power because she cannot control it, she also realizes that his power is housed in actual flesh, while her power is not. She burns Rai to a crisp before moving on. Albert, however, has learned that the weapons Rai produced with his energy can harm Pierce, and we depart the issue with him wielding one of Rai’s swords.
Review:
This was a good issue, even with all of the recapping of story that has already been told. Albert is a little more disgusting now that we’ve gotten to know him a little better. The demise of Rai was rather shocking! It was one of those things that I couldn’t avoid knowing was coming, but I didn’t know exactly when or how it would happen, and it happened differently than I expected. I am now very curious to see how the Rai title will continue on from this point. Also, now that the group is seemingly in range of freeing Solar, the event is really heating up! I’ve figured that he would play a big part in the resolution of Unity, now it’s almost time to find out how!
We are only three chapters away from the end of Unity! Up next is Chapter 16, Harbinger #9.
