“Kill him.” – Batman
“What? That’s crazy talk!” – Joker
What was that? You heard it right! But who is it in regards to? The story of The New 52: Futures End #35 collides more of the past and present as this week has some crazy encounters! I can’t even count all the Batmans running around. Two? Four?
Writers Brian Azzarello, Jeff Lemire, Dan Jurgens, and Keith Giffen bring us back into the action right from the start of this issue of Futures End. The “new” Firestorm is battling for her life against Doctor Polaris – and not doing a bad job considering how long she’s been Firestorm for (but she has Jason’s help!). This issue overall went once again with the multiple stories approach as it also gave us a look into Frankenstein’s condition as well as a humorous look at Fifty-Sue (who would’ve thought?)
On the artwork side of this week’s issue is Jesus Merino and Stephen Thompson on pencils, with inks by Dan Green and Thompson, and colors once again by Hi-Fi. The opening scene with Firestorm and Doctor Polaris made for some great artwork, especially the contrast between the night sky and Firestorm’s bright red/yellow look – and the first page of the issue when she’s next to the giant bear…classic. A great panel featuring the two (three if you count Jason) has Firestorm making a run for it as the ground below her is being torn up, all while Jason reminds her she has to stay and fight!
This week is full of plenty of action and, thanks to Fifty-Sue, some good laughs as well. The ending though…that’s where the scene you’ve been waiting for arrives (the scene featuring the above quote). So go grab this issue!
