Are you ready for the coming ORGASMAGEDDON? It matters not, GWAR is invading comics books whether your feeble meat bag is ready or not! Just launched on Kickstarter, amidst a violent flurry or bodily fluids and thundering eons-old rock, the one and only GWAR has teamed with writer Matt Miner (Toe Tag RiotCritical Hit), artist Jonathan Brandon Sawyer (Welcome Back, Critical Hit), colorist Marissa Louise (RoboCop, Escape from New York), letterer Taylor Esposito (The Paybacks, Red Hood and the Outlaws) and editor Brendan Wright (Archie vs. Predator, Grindhouse: Doors Open at Midnight) to launch GWAR: ORGASMAGEDDON!

There’s no barrier to entry on this fervent and irreverent 4-issue series, as loyal GWAR disciples and the uninitiated alike can find plenty of humor, social commentary, and tried and true comic book violence to revel in equally. Keeping to the band’s satirical and outrageous spirit, GWAR: ORGASMAGEDDON is an over-the-top raucous romp that’s appropriately self-aware and offers legit bananas fun for comics fans regardless of their musical tastes and whether they’ve heard the gospel of GWAR.

The Kickstarter is loaded with amazing exclusive rewards from original art to signed merchandise to tattoo to actual stage-used props from the Scumdogs of the Universe themselves and is now live for your crowdfunding pleasure. It ends on November 25th and needs to hit its goal to become a reality, so go take a look at what they’ve got cooked up, the rewards, and all the potential destructive fun to be had and become a backer! The official Press Release can be found below along with the official launch video and a first look at some cover art, but before that, All-Comic had the opportunity to ask a few questions of Matt Miner, Jonathan Brandon Sawyer, and GWAR members Sawborg Destructo and Bonesnapper the Cave Troll:

ALL-COMIC: Now that GWAR is coming to comics, are all other comics obsolete?

MATT MINER: GWAR laughs at weaker comics – they’ll all perish in a torrent of gore.  And fire.  And bile.

AC: Matt and Jonathan, how did this come about? Did our glorious masters reach out to you to be their prophets of the ORGASMAGEDDON or did you seek the Scumdogs out as part of some destructive pilgrimage?

MATT MINER: I searched them out, knowing I wanted to write these books for a very long time.  I went to meet with them and, luckily, left the Slave Pit un-disemboweled and with a new purpose:  to bring the Orgasmageddon story to the masses and sing GWAR’s praises to the world.

JONATHAN BRANDON SAWYER: Matt brought up the idea at a show a couple of years ago when I did an Oderus meets Spring Breakers piece for him (Spring Breakers is his favorite movie.) He’d bring it up every couple of months, just in that way you fantasize about a dream project. One day he called me up and told me he was really pursuing it, and so I got on board, did some sketches, and we took it to GWAR.

AC: Sawborg Destructo and Bonesnapper, what makes these particular maggots the right choice to deliver your message of gore and excrement to the comic masses?

SAWBORG: These two meat bags have sold their souls to their masters – like all humans they should be telling the tales of GWAR!  And for this they will earn a place at the top of the pile of corpses called the human race!  Oh but buy the comic, and read it, then… get in line to die for GWAR.

BONESNAPPER: As an outer space elementary school dropout, I don’t read so good.  Deeze guys draw pitchurs real good though, so that helps.  I hear if you can read (I can’t) dat they also write woids real good too!

AC: What’s the collaboration been like for the band and creators alike? Is venturing into comics something the band’s always wanted to do? Has GWAR been an influence on past comics you’ve worked on?

MM: The GWAR guys are all comics fans, artists, and insanely talented and imaginative people, so collaborating with them has been tons of fun.  Thinking about it, my series TOE TAG RIOT (punk rock zombies killing racists and homophobes) was heavily influenced by my love of GWAR and even my series CRITICAL HIT, which was much more grounded in reality, had GWAR easter eggs throughout.

AC: What can you tell us about the overall plot, tone, and aesthetic of GWAR: ORGASMAGEDDON? What are you hoping to put on the comic page that you haven’t done or seen before?

MM:  It’s fun and gory with a conscience – blood spray with a wink and a nod and a purpose – but mostly just silly fun.  The story is basically GWAR trapped in time, trampling through human history in a destructive rampage to get back to the present and kick their enemy Mr. Perfect’s ass as he’s trying to assimilate Sawborg Destructo.  Think of it like Bill and Ted’s, but if Bill and Ted went on a bender, murdered everyone who annoyed them, and had better jokes.  Though that “Iron Maiden” joke from the second movie still rules.

AC: Every issue will feature contributions on art and writing from GWAR members; is there no end to your destructive prowess? When during the many millennia of ravaging did you hone those skills?

SAWBORG:  Meeting many races across the universe I have found that a picture is worth a thousand words.  After you ball up said picture and ram it down the gullet of your enemy they tend to do what you want.

BONESNAPPER: In the millions of years I spent roaming the universe with GWAR, I got nothing but dumber.  I can’t stress enough the importance of…  Dahh, what was the question?

AC: All these Kickstarter rewards sound ridiculously awesome. How many phalluses are just laying around waiting to get sent out to deserving backers? Do most of them require hazmat suits to be handled? What can you tell us about some of the other rewards?

MM: There’s so much ridiculously cool stuff available as rewards you really need to check out GWARkickstarter.com and look for yourself.  We’ve got everything from limited Kickstarter covers to exclusive GWAR T-Shirts to GWAR tattoos (yes, real tattoos) to original art to posters and props signed by the band all the way up to original art from the band and actual stage-used props that are still stained with GWAR blood.  All that goodness and much more awaits our loyal backers.  I was so excited I literally started to hyperventilate when I was unpacking the box from GWAR and pulling all this stuff out.

JBS: I’m contributing original pages from the first issue, some GWAR head sketches, and original concept art of the characters.  I also designed a Kickstarter exclusive GWAR t-shirt, which I’m really excited about.

AC: Finally, KISS once infamously mixed their own blood into the ink that was used to print their comic book. What can we expect to find in the ink of GWAR: ORGASMAGEDDON?

MM: Holy shit, we should do something like this.  I’m gonna look into what it would take to mix some sort of GWAR bodily fluids or radioactive waste into the ink.

JBS: I don’t know what’s going into the ink of the book, but the backers who receive my original art may want to wear gloves when handling the artwork…

SAWBORG: We should grind KISS up to a bloody meaty pulp and use them to print the GWAR comic.

BONESNAPPER: Unlike KISS, GWAR is not a group of sociopathic liars.  We use ink to write stuff down, and blood to drink, unless we don’t have ink, then we use blood.  Also we aren’t infamous, we are actually famous.

Official Press Release:

GWAR AND COMIC CREATORS LAUNCH COMICS KICKSTARTER

JUST LAUNCHED on Kickstarter – GWAR: ORGASMAGEDDON, a blasphemous and blood-drenched 4-issue full-color comic book series by shock rock legends GWAR, writer Matt Miner (Toe Tag Riot, Critical Hit), artist Jonathan Brandon Sawyer (Welcome Back, Critical Hit), colorist Marissa Louise (RoboCop, Escape from New York), letterer Taylor Esposito (The Paybacks, Red Hood and the Outlaws) and editor Brendan Wright (Archie vs. Predator, Grindhouse: Doors Open at Midnight).

Having already violated the art, music, and film worlds, now infamous scumdogs GWAR are coming for your comic books!  Do you need to be a GWAR fan to love this series?  Hell no!  There’s loads of laughs, violence, fun, and irreverent social satire for everyone to enjoy!

Trampling through the past after being trapped in time by the cold and calculating Mr. Perfect, GWAR fights and kills and kills and KILLS, slogging their way through human history in a torrent of gore, blood, bile, and other assorted bodily fluids the way only the most famous satirical heavy metal band from the depths of outer space can.

“I’ve been a fan of GWAR more than half my life,” said writer Matt Miner.  “They’ve been one of my very favorite things since someone loaned 16-year-old me a cassette tape of SCUMDOGS OF THE UNIVERSE and my mind was warped for the better.  This is the coolest thing I’ve ever done aside from punking the Westboro Baptist Church, making them proclaim that my comics will ‘Split Hell wide open.’”

In addition to the main story, every issue contains extras – shorts featuring X-COPS (GWAR’s cult-favorite 1990s side project, lampooning corrupt police) and the follies of SAWBORG DESTRUCTO, GWAR’s fearsome but mostly incompetent nemesis from Planet Scumdogia.  Each issue will also feature art and story contributions from GWAR members themselves, starting with pieces by BOB GORMAN (Bonesnapper the Cave Troll) and MATT MAGUIRE (Sawborg Destructo).

To entice pledges on the Kickstarter, the team has come up with a treasure trove of goodies to reward loyal backers.  Items range from comics and exclusive Kickstarter covers to limited edition T-shirts, original painted art on drum heads from GWAR themselves, painted baby GOR-GOR character dinosaurs, honest to God STAGE-USED GWAR PROPS, and tons of autographed merchandise, such as posters signed by the entire band, including the late, great Oderus Urungus, who graced our puny human lives and made the world a much more fun place as the band’s ODERUS URUNGUS.

The Kickstarter can be found at GWARKICKSTARTER.COM and it ends on November 25, 2016!  Kickstarter is all-or-nothing funding so it must hit goal by November 25th to be able to make the project.

‘cuz we are GWAR and we’ll go far… we’ve got guitars, we’ll eat your car!
