Merrick: The Sensational Elephantman & Doctor Crowe #1 brings together Merrick and Crowe in a rip-roaring Victorian, pulp, adventure. It’s also a first for Kickstarter; an independent, creator owned cross-over one-shot. Co-written by series creators Tom Ward and Corey Fryia, with art by Luke Parker and letters by Micah Myers.

Merrick: The Sensational Elephantman has been a UK Kickstarter success for creators Tom Ward and Luke Parker who over the last couple of years have consistently released 6 issues, a one-shot spin-off and a collected trade paperback collection. You may have seen more of Luke’s work recently in the Winternational with Joe Casey, collected in Annual (Image Comics), or one of the recent pin ups in select Image Comics. The comic follows the adventures of a fictional version of Joseph Merrick: The Elephantman, an outcast spurned by genteel society because of his mis-shapen body and thick grey skin, which also imbue him with the toughness and strength of his namesake the elephant. Returning to London to seek revenge on manager who betrayed him and left him for dead, Merrick becomes embroiled with historical figures such as Frederick Treves, Arthur Conan Doyle and Thomas Hardy, secret societies and other unique individuals.

Doctor Crowe, also has roots in Kickstarter, which was then picked up by the publisher 215Ink for a well received mini-series in 2017. Created by Corey Fryia and Matt Horak, currently performing art duties on The Punisher for Marvel Comics, Doctor Crowe is an infamous adventuring scientist; expert on the occult and an all-around pulp hero who uses advanced technologies to battle gruesome, supernatural terrors across the globe.

It was inevitable for these two 1800’s pulp heroes to eventually appear on the page together in the spirit of the classic, fun, no-nonsense superhero cross-overs. When Dr. Crowe arrives in London to solve the murder of a police constable, he crosses paths with The Elephantman, who is on a mission of his own to find the missing children of Whitechapel. Together they will fight for their lives to survive the night!

Live on Kickstarter now, and 50% funded in the first 3 days, pledge rewards start from just £2 for a digital download of the book. Links to free downloads of the first issues of both series are also available on the Kickstarter page.
