By Benjamin Percy, Bazaldua and GURU-eFX

X-Force #12 continues the path to X of Swords. Things are starting to take shape as we see more and more characters coming into possession of swords. Last issue, Colossus’ brother Mikhail stabbed Kid Omega with a sword. Issue 12 picks up right where 11 left off.

The reappearance of Mikhail Rasputain is an interesting development. Percy knows that this can be used against both Colossus and Magik. It also raises the question of where Mikhail’s allegiance is, his race or his country. Percy has also begun to make Beast a very unlikable character. The way Hank handles the situation with Colossus is shameful. Beast is a character that has had run ins with mutants before, his feud with Cyclops lasted for a while as well. Percy ends this issue with the villain acting intelligently. This is not something that is seen in comics all the time, but Percy shows us that he’s keeping this series on track and will make the villains compelling. This was a well written issue that will continue to get better as long as Percy is doing the writing.

The pencils this issue are handled by Bazaldua with colors by GURU-eFX. Bazaldua crushes it on the pencils here. His work is very clean and clear for the reader. The little fight between Mikhail and clone looks great and the page is easy to navigate. Your eyes can go from one gorgeous panel to the next with ease. The pages with Colossus and his new lady friend in the field are drawn nicely. These pages actually remind me of a scene from the classic Tim Burton Movie Big Fish. Thes panels work so well and look so amazing because of the colors from GURU-eFx. He colors the flowers a beautiful vibrant pink and it just continues to catch your eye. GURU-eFX is hands down one of the best colorists in the industry and it should be understood that when his name is on a book, you’ll be getting amazing work. Pages with Mikhail and Kid Omega are dark with the exception of the pink light coming from Kid Omega. The pencils and colors on this issue really help it to be a more enjoyable read. GURU-eFX and Bazaldua knock it out of the park here.

X-Force #12 is a good book that is building for the next big X-event. Benjamin Percy has been consistently good on X-Force and this issue is business as usual. The pencils and colors really steal the show in this issue. The work done by the artist and colorist shine and the issue is all the better for it. X-Force lives up to the hype.
