On June 9th, the official Japanese Twitter account for Weekly Shonen Jump announced that the Jujutsu Kaisen manga will go on an indefinite hiatus starting in the magazine’s 29th issue on June 21st. The hiatus is due to the recent poor health of Jujutsu Kaisen author Gege Akutami, and the magazine will announce a return date for the manga once Akutami has properly recovered.
Akutami also commented that the hiatus should last “around a month.” Additionally, Akutami mentioned that his condition is not severe and that he is doing well mentally.
Jujutsu Kaisen started in Weekly Shonen Jump back in March 2018, and has slowly become one of the prominent hits of the magazine. The manga has over 50 million copies in circulation with 16 volumes released in print. The series also received a popular anime adaptation in October of last year, and a movie based on the manga’s prequel Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is set to release this winter.
Best of luck to Gege Akutami and their recovery!
