On this episode of Manga Mavericks, Colton & Lum are joined by John from the MercuryFalcon Youtube channel, as well as Karleen & Malia from Coherent Cats, to discuss Osamu Tezuka’s original Dororo manga! A story about a wandering samurai named Hyakkimaru and his rambunctious thief sidekick, Dororo, as they hunt down and slay all kinds of evil spirits and yokai in order for Hyakkimaru to regain all 48 of his missing body parts (and also hunt for treasure, I guess…). We’re excited to finally cover our first Tezuka manga as we discuss how feel about Dororo compared to some of his other works, as well as how we feel about Tezuka’s handling of Hyakkimaru’s physical disabilities and Dororo’s gender identity.
