Convergence #4

To say that DC’S Convergence event has been a mess is an understatement. There are a slew of problems wrong with this, and one of the main problems is that the tie-ins are way better than the actual story.

Another week and another disappointing issue of Convergence. This event just isn’t as fun as it should be. Why DC decided to make this a big event instead of keeping it as an Earth-2 story is a question that needs an answer. Jeff King is writing a story that is just flat and unexciting. We are following characters that don’t really matter and most fans aren’t attached to. King writes many of these characters kind of bland. It may even get to the point where we end up rooting for Telos and Brainiac, so we can focus on someone we actually like. While this issue progresses the plot a little, it’s not enough to warrant any type of care at all.

The pencils this issue are handled by Stephen Segovia with colors by Peter Steigerwald. The art is actually decent here. Segovia draws the fight scenes well and they are clean. It’s cool to see Jay whizzing around from opponent to opponent on a spread page. Telos looks good throughout the entire book and Segovia gives him a look that seems like he toes the line between right and wrong. The colors by Peter Steigerwald fit well with what Segovia is doing with his pencils. This was an issue that featured a ton of shading and Steigerwald did a fine job with it.

This has been a pretty disappointing event so far and it most likely won’t get any better. The audience keeps waiting around for something important to happen and we haven’t had any payoff four issues in. If you’re not that invested in this series, you can probably skip it and pick up the DC titles after the event ends.
