This crossover event is well under way at this point. The premiere issue was a little rocky to say the least, but as each issue has progressed, the story and plot developed nicely. Nekron has been revealed to be the big bad and is in the process of bringing planet Vulcan back. Meanwhile, Hal Jordan and the crew of the U.S.S Enterprise try to figure out the situation, but with Sinestro and Atrocitus wreaking havoc in this new galaxy, there was little time to think…just the way Hal likes it!

Mike Johnson has a clear grasp on the Green Lantern characters. The voices of each of them is spot-on, especially Sinestro. Having Johnson work on the solo Sinestro book would be an amazing idea – fingers crossed. Perhaps it’s due to the fact that this reviewer is more of a Lantern fan, but the Star Trek side of things just seems to be completely ancillary. Mike has made great use, though, of the universe to blend into the Green Lantern mythos. As each issue comes out, it feels more and more like a story from Green Lantern and that is totally fine.

Angel Hernandez is another creator that would be great on a Green Lantern title. The Larfleeze design is a little disappointing, but other than that the characters are top-notch. Also, the depiction of the constructs and power blasts are wonderful. Colorist Alejandro Sanchez and he collaborate well to bring the color and action vibrancy that these two franchises are known for. Considering this is called “The Spectrum War”, coloration plays a big part in the story. Even in certain pages the panels’ outlines are colored and implemented into the scene being presented. This is all slowly building to what will no doubt be an intense final battle with Nekron and if this is any indication, it will be rendered gorgeously.

This mini-series has definitely improved and things look to be heading to a strong conclusion. Mike Johnson hasn’t tampered with the Lantern storylines and is able to make everything work out. To come up with a story like this is an impressive feat. This series is worth checking out. There are only two issues left, so perhaps it may be beneficial to wait for the trade to come out.
