Overall this is a fun first half of what looks to be a promising two-parter, in which story and art bind together and enforce each other to achieve a stronger whole.
That long promised apocalypse is a hell of a lot closer than the characters of its world would like. After years of being told the end times are coming all across these books, and readers feeling like the child in the back of the car constantly asking “are we there yet?”; the answer from Mignola is finally: “Nearly.”
