by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa & Francesco Francavilla

Afterlife With Archie isn’t just a great zombie story or Archie tale but it’s shaping up to be one of the best comic series ever. It may only be three issues deep but with each new issue that comes out they find a way to top the previous one which is no small feat. If you are a person who doesn’t enjoy the genre of “horror” then maybe you should give this series a try because there is something so fun and original going on here that it makes you fiend for more like a comic zombie.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has really stood out in this series, writing a story that is truly terrifying to read while still keeping all of the Riverdale residents true to their characters to satisfy all spectrums of fans who may be reading this. This story has been perfectly paced, each issue flows in to the next well while still cranking up the suspense. The hardest part of Afterlife With Archie is being able to write these iconic characters in an unfamiliar setting while still being able to honor all of the Archie characters. Aguirre-Sacasa still finds a way to hook a new reader who may be unfamiliar with all of the history of Riverdale and even go so far as to make the reader want to read more of Archie.

We should all wake up every morning and thank whatever higher power you believe in for an artist like Francesco Francavilla. He has such a unique and beautiful throwback style to his art that makes anything he does stand out in comics right now. His use of contrasting subdued warm colors and dark blacks made his art perfect for a zombie series. The art in this series has helped tremendously with giving the reader that feeling of creeping despair and hopelessness that keeps you on the edge of your seat while reading. Francavilla truly is an artistic genius; even panels of dialog between characters are still stunning to look at. Honestly, which other artist could make zombie Jughead look that scary?

Afterlife With Archie is absolutely an exceptional series that only comes around every so often. This series gets better with every issue and that keeps readers interested and keeps them coming back. This series has gone beyond expectations and is just delivering both an attractive and shocking story. Thank you both Roberto and Francesco for delivering such a tremendous story.

Also if you ever decide to go to Riverdale, avoid every dog at all costs.
