Yesterday, we covered what we’d like to see from an X-O Manowar film, so let’s tackle another large franchise, Harbinger.

The Story

Joshua Dysart’s reimagining of Harbinger has been consistently top notch with every issue and lends itself to a movie very well. Of all the franchises, Harbinger could easily have multiple tie in movies and sequels since the whole series has been one giant arc broken down into pieces.

Such a strong series should be given to a writer experienced with translating comics into film, and I see David Goyer, who has written screenplays for Blade, Christopher Nolan’s Batman, and Man of Steel. Directing duties could go to Alex Proyas who has worked with Goyer before in films such as Dark City – one of my favorites – and is known for lots of dark overtones in his films.

The Cast

Joseph Cross as Peter Stanchek (Sting/Omicron)

I recently watched Cross as the techno serial killer in 2008’s Untraceable. He is a very capable actor and fits the look of Peter quite well.

Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Toyo Harada

Tagawa played the evil Shang Tsung in the original Mortal Kombat movie so he knows how to play the bad guy. He’s not only an actor but a skilled martial artist as well, and would represent the scheming Toyo Harada well.

Mila Kunis as Kris Hathaway

She’s hot, she’s smart, and she can be a little bit of a b**** to compensate for her lack of psiot powers – so can Mila.

Rebel Wilson as Faith Herbert (Zephyr)

She’s cute, she’s spunky, she’s a little bit nerdy. Rebel Wilson is a perfect Faith both in looks and personality.

Kristen Bell as Charlene Dupre (Flamingo)

While some may argue that Bell may not have the primal sex appeal that Charlene exudes in the comics, she’s a beautiful actress with a large geeky following. She has played a superhero before in the forgettable Heroes series, so she’s no stranger to the type of role, and her spunky outgoing attitude should do Charlene justice.

Dave Bautista as Torque/Douglas Booth as John Torkelson

While one actor could easily play the role of Torque, I opted to go for two simply based on looks, though with a little CGI, Booth could fit the bill.

Rosario Dawson as Livewire

Dawson is a great actress and largely underused in my opinion. She’s recognizable enough that comic fans will be drawn to the character and that she could easily transition to a Unity film and play a larger role.

Gary Oldman as the Bleeding Monk

Simply because there is nothing Gary Oldman can’t do – see his transformations in movies such as True Romance, Fifth Element, Hannibal, and Nolan’s Batman as examples – and if Harbinger #24 (and possibly Rai) are any indication, the Bleeding Monk will play a larger role in the universe – and one could never get enough Gary Oldman!
