THE HERO TRADE #1 – In Stores Now (Even If They Don’t Know It Yet)

David Copperfield made the Statue of Liberty disappear, David Blaine stood way up high on a pole for a good long while, and, now, Bad Idea has bested them all with an unthinkable feat that defies both logic and space-time: by making a brand-new, never-before-seen comic book by writer Matt Kindt and artist David Lapham materialize overnight in comic shops around the world.

That comic is THE HERO TRADE #1. (gasps)

But more on that in a moment.

Look, back when we told you that The Button – the quasi-supernatural, yet somehow still micro-managing entity currently calling the shots at Bad Idea – had seized control of our publishing plan earlier this year, we made it clear that it wasn’t playing around. It demanded a billion clicks and told us to build it a website to collect them – or else we could kiss Bad Idea’s sweet little dream of becoming an unruly and experimental comic book publisher goodbye.

The Button has spent the better part of the summer making good on its threats by racking up those clicks – hundreds of millions of them – and releasing a plethora of new art from a bunch of upcoming Bad Idea series without so much as a please or a thank you. To say nothing of feats like disappearing Bad Idea staffinterrogating our creators, and (checks notes) dying and coming back to life whenever it got bored. Honestly, it’s been pretty amazing to watch. But even we couldn’t have expected this.

So here’s the sauce, jack: To certify 800 million clicks clicked – and with the much-vaunted billion just around the corner – The Button has put forward the most awesome display of its considerable powers yet by executing the single greatest magic trick in the history of comics. Yes, magic is real, and, yes, Bad Idea knows how to use it. Obviously.

Here’s where THE HERO TRADE #1 comes in: This is a secret comic – secretly written by the New York Times best-selling creator of MIND MGMT, secretly drawn by the Eisner Award-winning creator of STRAY BULLETS, secretly published by an omnipotent button that also happens to have great taste in comics – and magically teleported into Bad Idea’s network of destination stores. (leans in) A special, limited promo release now available at participating comic shops. (cups hand to ear). Your very first taste of Bad Idea. (whispers) And it tastes pretty damn good.

Don’t believe us? We know what you’re thinking. “I’m smart, I get all my news off of Facebook, and this is surely some kind of joke.” Right, so pick up the phone and call any one of Bad Idea’s wave one destination stores. We promise: THE HERO TRADE #1 is there right now…even if they don’t know it yet.

Do it. We’ll wait.

***

Okay, now that we have established how really real this is, you naturally want to see more. Here’s a tiny taste of THE HERO TRADE #1 – guaranteed to be the only comic that still has that fresh teleportation smell:

Right? Right.

And if you think this is impressive…just wait until we hit a billion.

Yours truly,

Bad Idea

PS – Oh no, don’t leave yet, we forgot something important! Much like an ancient cursed amulet, there are three secrets that we have yet to reveal about THE HERO TRADE #1. We will do so in due time on Bad Idea’s FacebookTwitter, and Instagram feeds…so make sure you are paying very, very close attention when the times comes:

  1. WOW, THOUGHT IT WOULD BE THAT EASY, HUH? THE BUTTON WILL REVEAL THE THREE SECRETS WHEN IT’S GOOD AND READY. WE MIGHT EVEN HOLD THEM LONGER NOW THAT YOU TRIED TO PEEK. HOW DO YOU LIVE WITH YOURSELF?
  2. SERIOUSLY, JUST BECAUSE YOU OWN A COPY OF V FOR VENDETTA, THAT DOES NOT MAKE YOU A MEMBER OF ANONYMOUS. PUT DOWN THE PALMPILOT AND GIVE IT UP ALREADY.
  3. LOOK, THE BLACK TEXT WAS LITERALLY THE FIRST THING WE KNEW TO FIX. AND, YET, HERE WE ARE — ON BULLET POINT NUMBER THREE. THIS IS EMBARRASSING FOR US AND FOR YOU. WELL, MOSTLY FOR YOU.
