MAJOR SPOILERS!

Well, it looks like we have one of the best episodes of Game of Thrones that we’ve had in a while, and it’s easy to see why with the amount of plot progression that happens this time around. The Stark family has been separated for the majority of the show now, beginning with the death of Eddard and then Rob, as well as Arya coming painfully close to Rob without being reunited with him. We had begun to accept that they wouldn’t be reunited before the end of the series. Thankfully though, Book of the Stranger pulled off an amazing, emotional moment that saw Sansa and Jon meet at Castle Black, following Jon’s resurrection.

Sansa and Jon's reunion is a Season 6 highlight... and we're only four episodes in.
Sansa and Jon’s reunion is a Season 6 highlight… and we’re only four episodes in.

Sansa didn’t have as many scenes with Jon as say Arya when the Starks were together, but it still just goes to show how changed these characters are, how different they are from when they were last together. I mean, Jon’s died and come back from the dead. Sansa’s experienced life under not one but two of Westeros’ most twisted rulers, Ramsay and Joffrey. They’re hardened by their experiences. And now we get to see them back together again on a mission to reclaim Winterfell from Ramsay, who is threatening to kill everyone including Rickon who he now has in his possession, as well as Sansa. Ramsay wants the North, and he’s going to stop at nothing to get it. Ladies and gentlemen, Jon Snow’s plotline just became interesting again.

He wasn’t the only plot that instantly became more interesting because Daenerys had kind of suffered as late, but now this was a good episode for Emilia Clarke’s character as well, who has been kind of meandering on her way to Westeros at this rate. Her final scene at the end of the episode worked really well as she trapped her Dothraki captors, all the various Khals, in one room and was able to burn them in fire, walking out unscathed to find everyone bowing down to her again (yes, this was basically a do-over of the scene from the end of Season 1). She’s now reunited with Jorah and Daario, which should open up for some room to move the momentum of this series forward.

Meanwhile, The High Sparrow found himself the target of an unlikely alliance between the Lannisters and the Tyrells. It’s something that’s worth mentioning here, but probably wasn’t quite as gripping as the rest of the episode, which we also saw Theon trying to make up for his mistakes by helping Yara regain control of House Greyjoy. We also got to see Littlefinger for the first time this season as it looks like he now has gained soldiers from Robin Arryn in an effort to help Sansa somehow. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Littlefinger going forward as he attempts to correct what he did wrong in Season 5 (like whether or not he’ll end up helping Jon and Sansa take down Ramsay), but for now, we’ll have to wait and see what lies in store.

There were some great moments in this episode that really helped elevate it above your standard Game of Thrones episode. It was pretty awesome and the Sansa/Jon reunion has easily been the highlight of the season so far. That final scene with Dany, though, is a close contender, and I really can’t wait to see where the show takes us next week as the pieces are starting to fall into place.
