Round Robin Review: Ivar, Timewalker #3

This week we continue our journey through time with the release of Ivar, Timewalker #3. Can Fred Van Lente top the first two issues? Read on for our spoiler free Round Robin Review!

Amy’s take

Fred Van Lente crafts another entertaining chapter that propels the reader both through the book and through time. The resourceful Neela proves herself to be capable of great and terrible feats. Van Lente balances some of the darker elements with well-placed humor. Suspicion is cast upon Ivar, and at this point in the story, it’s hard to tell where his intentions lie. Clayton Henry’s smooth lines and Brian Reber’s colors are assets. The shift to a different inker and colorist on some pages is noticeable but not detrimental to the overall effect. Looking forward to the next book.

Martin’s take

With its third issue, Ivar, Timewalker starts to unravel some of the mystery behind why Ivar has decided to take Neela under his wing as his companion through time. As it turns out, much of what we may have learned about time travel may not necessarily be true, though I’m sure this will be further explored with the conclusion of the first arc next month. I like that Van Lente is continuing to explore Ivar’s flawed personality, making the point several times this issue about how we often do what we think is best at the time, regardless of what consequences may come as a result. Clayton Henry’s art continues to astound, and I just can’t wait for the next issue.

Paul’s take

Ivar, Timewalker #3 was enjoyable, but I’m finding it difficult to connect with. Once issue #3 is out and in my hands I’m going to go back and reread the entire run so far and hopefully get a better connection with the characters.
